Boston fern (Nephrolepis exaltata)

Tradewinds South Coast are pleased to offer one of the most popular house plants of all time.
The Boston fern - Nephrolepsis exaltata
History of the Boston Fern
This very popular fern has been the staple indoor plant all around the world for hundreds of years. By the early 1900's reports state that up to 2,000,000 plants were cultivated each year in the USA.
My favorite example of these beautiful hanging plants can be found throughout the French Quarter of New Orleans in the USA. The sword fern species are native to the southern tropical regions of the USA and Central America.
They are perfectly suited to the dry conditions found in the average home. The Boston Fern is what's known as an "xerophytic" plant. They are perfectly capable of thriving in dry atmospheres.
